AT&T introduces Global SIM Advanced to improve connectivity for IoT devices


AT&T, one of the leading telecom operators in the US, has introduced its Global SIM Advanced (GSA) solution. The company has launched it as an improved version of the existing Global SIM connectivity. As per the brand, the new eSIM solution delivers improved and flexible connectivity for IoT (Internet of Things) products worldwide.

AT&T’s new Global SIM Advanced solution can store multiple network profiles on a single eSIM

According to AT&T, its new Global SIM Advanced solution provides multiple ways for customers to meet the needs of their global IoT operations. Notably, the eSIM solution is capable of storing as many as nine network profiles on a single eSIM. This solution allows devices to switch between different networks without the requirement for physical SIM card replacements.

Furthermore, consumer devices stay connected by switching to the best available network. The solution achieves this through multiple network fallback options and the capability to update the eSIM with a localized profile over the air. This helps to deliver continuous and reliable connectivity regardless of a device’s geographic location. To simplify the solution, if a device moves to a new area, it can download a localized network profile over the air, which should deliver a smoother user experience.

Also, the GSM solution has in-region routing functionality to support low latency use cases. Eseye’s AnyNet eSIM and the Infinity platform power AT&T’s GSA, enabling efficient management of eSIM functions. As per the company, this platform allows for remote updates, automation, and network switching, among other things.

GSA is particularly useful for Internet of Things devices

As mentioned above, AT&T’s GSA solution is quite useful for IoT products. These include smart meters, connected vehicles, industrial sensors, smart health trackers, and POS terminals. Most of these devices, like smart city traffic sensors, require an uninterrupted connection to relay real-time data to perform as intended.

Currently, GSA focuses on IoT devices, but the telco could expand similar eSIM capabilities to smartphones to make connectivity more reliable and cost-effective for everyday users as well.
