In the previous blog we discussed how apps can help to promote healthy behaviours. This blog is not about science, but more about my experiences with an app. Recently I got involved in a project called RIDO. Since I downloaded it to my phone I have used RIDO almost every day and it has quickly become one of my top 5 apps on my phone.
What is RIDO?
RIDO can be downloaded from the Apple or Google store. The app gamifies cycling and one of the goals of RIDO is to get more people on bikes and motivate them to ride. It adds an extra dimension to a bike ride because after a ride, kilometers logged can be claimed and turned into coins. These earned coins can be used (invested) to play the game. By playing the game you will earn coins more quickly in the future.
A user will have a virtual bike which will deteriorate when you use it, and you need coins to maintain it. Your energy levels will drop and fatigue will develop over time. It will take time to recover. You can use the coins to speed up this recovery process. Gradually you move from one level to the next and earning coins becomes easier and easier.
You can also use coins to pay for things in the store where you can find items like helmets, glasses and so on. RIDO will have challenges where you need to complete a number of tasks in order to get products from partners or a chance to win something. Below you will find my challenge on RIDO whihc will give you 3 months access to RIDO.
How does it work?
Download the app, set up a profile and connect your device whether this is Garmin, Wahoo, Strava, Zwift or something else. No card details needed. Just start riding and when you get back, claim your kilometers.
My challenge
Normally around this time I prepare for the Maratona Dles Dolomiti, probabably my favourite event. It is an amazing ride 138km and 4230m of elevation. This year I cannot do the event, but I will still rdie the distance and elevation. RIDO has turned it into a challege and everyone can join me. If you complete the challenge you can use RIDO 3 months for free.
